my main trouble was the length of this novel - i had to take a pause somewhere in the middle because it was really, just Then Much. i definitely feel like it'll be ameliorate off half the length just i suppose i do s 3.5 | okay. i enjoyed this novel a lot, honestly. i beloved the fact that we have all the wuxia elements but also the mixture of modern twenty-four hours internet slang/civilization - zhu yao is honestly such a good character, it'south and then refreshing to read about a strong, smart, and kind female character. yeah but.
my main trouble was the length of this novel - i had to have a break somewhere in the center because it was really, merely So Much. i definitely feel like information technology'll be amend off half the length merely i suppose i exercise see why it's and then long (everything had to develop and connect). besides really sad how some characters never reappeared later a reincarnation/movement to some other globe like. yeah u have yue ying and yu yan but like????? little radish and mushmush???? practiced characters i desire more :( (as well the romance was kinda wack everyone saw it coming miles away only it still felt weird and kinda too much in my face up tbh.) lastly. this may just exist me being sensitive but like? was there really the demand for zhu yao to human activity all shook/scandalized whenever ane character looks like they like another grapheme of the same gender? and unsure if it was written similar this or if information technology was the translator'south choice merely damn. why did i accept to read the word homosexual buddy at least 20 times in the terminal arc? it just feels like the author/translator is making fun of the lgbtq community and saying that being gay is their just defining trait which is. ugly to say the least.
tl;dr: i really hate when hets add lgbtq characters for the sole purpose of a humor break.

Unfortunately the structure makes information technology feel incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, every bit every new 'My Disciple Died Still Again' is a quirky novel in a format that reminds a lot more than of a tv show of several seasons than a book. On one manus, by the separation of "missions" through the arcs, on the other paw, past a writing mode that is rather visual. With its eccentric characters, pop culture references and a heavy reliance on sense of humor over logic, it is a fun and entertaining read. For the almost part.
Unfortunately the construction makes it feel incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, equally every new arc comes with a setback in tillage, new setting, characters etc, at the cost of some more than character development. Unfortunately, the plot relies heavily on a main character that is goodhearted and lightheartedly vehement (I judge... it's for laughs?), but whose main attribute is the ability to not change... at all. So we take a chief graphic symbol who is maybe non perfect, but even so sold as 'platonic person' in many ways, which leads to the read dragging on weven more than.
Coming back to it feeling like a written tv shows, rather than going towards a goal, the structure of this is more circular. Whenever ane thinks in that location is some actual overarching plot, it only reverts dorsum to another new "mission".
Unfortunately the ending does not fix this issue with a really clever tie up of all the events in the previous Arcs, but instead relies on a pretty generic: "It'due south all to brand the world a better place through this chosen heroine" logic. The solution relies on a pretty creepy, almost authoritarian solution, while nearly side characters are simply dropped.
Leaving aside a lot of pretty offensive terminology in the handling of both obesity and homosexuality, which are constantly playes for jokes (and for homosexuality being unnatural and a problem that needs solving.... great...), it is, if considered equally one book, really a piece of light entertainment.
I acknowledge that under the consitions of writing (regular updates, chapter by affiliate on a weblog) of these chinese novels, it is maybe a bit unfair to rate this as I would a 1 volume volume, simply after reading the works of MXTX (Mo Dao Zu Shi etc), it is clearly possible to still write a plot-heavy, cohesive novel. This is is considerably less professional person.
That said information technology is not horrible, I assume it is actually hitting or miss. If you look a novel, fifty-fifty if it's comedic entertainment, to take a satisfactory build up and solution, so this seems indeed rather sloppy. If you are just reading it for distraction, focusing on sense of humour, pop-culture references and uncomplicated characters, I am sure this has a lot of potential. To be clear, I didn't finish this whole book. There are 12 arcs / 395 chapters total, and I got through the first 6 arcs / 195 capacity. Mayhap I volition revisit this again someday, only the whole cycle of reviving and removing the issues in a new mission kinda got quondam. To be fair, we finally found out a little bit more than at the stop of arc vi, and Realmspirit did promise to spill the beans afterward Zhu Yao'southward next mission, simply who knows.I enjoyed seeing what kind of new class she'd return in each fourth dimension. The bigender form reminded me a chip of the master graphic symbol in Ranma one/2. The dragon was probably my favorite, given how she was able to subdue all demonic beasts with her presence, including the devil-inhabited rabbit god at the end. The piece of jade stone was the near interesting, since she kept on ending up with owners she didn't care for.
I did go a kick out of the main character's internal monologue. She was quite funny and had a very edgeless way of putting things. I read on mainly for her and for the romance. Speaking of which, I kept waiting for the romance to get further forth, and afterward 195 chapters in, I gave up on Zhu Yao's completely clueless primary, Yu Yan. For example, see the below interaction betwixt them correct earlier I dropped, where Zhu Yao is trying to take off his clothes and sleep with him:

I feel like I could spend some time about how admittedly WILD it is, flailing near in the wildernesses of apprentice translations. In that location's South
"My Disciple Died Yet Again" is 1 of the few titles that popped up multiple times when I started looking for recommendations for female-led xianxia novels (I really liked watching The Untamed, and really liked their female characters, but generally came away wanting more of them. Since the novel of that is going to take a while, I thought I'd try a few others.)I feel similar I could spend some fourth dimension about how absolutely WILD it is, flailing about in the wildernesses of amateur translations. There's And so much weird drama, in that location'south footnotes that become from passive ambitious (this translator just links to wikipedia, which I call back is hilarious) to like, squeeing translator inserts, or footnotes that just don't exist for some ...more obscure content... only there's conspicuously this customs doing a lot of piece of work for costless on really intense schedules, which is just :O. I capeesh their work immensely.
ANYway what I am looking for in these xianxia novels (and finding) feels similar archetype pulp - it's incredibly readable, the action moves along, and (perhaps this is unlike) in that location are character relationships you lot want to see develop. In My Disciple Died Yet Again there's all those things and also a lot of humor, but oftentimes slapstick/cultural misunderstandings sort of thing. The best humor is when it's about someone beingness incredibly sincere and caring and going over the top. The worst is the characters that are mostly just fat jokes. Notwithstanding, there does appear to exist some heart in it, and I appreciate that and also the competent/attainable translation.
Also this is a series of 12 books, not one, so I'm going to marker information technology as read/reread for even so many books I actually end.

Dropped at chapter 144/393. I well-nigh dropped it at chapter 30 at first because it was so and so slow, but then it picked up and was peachy and I had a bunch of belly aching laughs. And then it reset then got boring again and and then picked up a bit, and then information technology reset. After the fifth (?) reset I'grand just actually tired. Similar, just thinking virtually having to become through this for another 250 capacity makes me want to lie down in bed for a few days.I quite like the MC, actually. There's just non much else near the plots or other characters that really stands out much for me. I was property on for some romance just I realized that it wasn't going to happen any time before long. Many many many other things would go in the way and the progress was like watching a huge programme loading on an old computer: futile and infuriating. I'll reserve my fourth dimension for something more worthwhile.
